Polyethylene

Manufacturing

The most common plastic on earth.

Grocery bags, plastic bottles, milk cartons, bulletproof vests, and even joint prostheses.

Product, Science, Explainer

Produced in quantities exceeding 80 million tons annually, this plastic is nearly impossible not to interact with dozens of times on a daily basis.

Polyethylene

I always wanted to create an animation centered on chemistry, a field I know relatively little about but find deeply fascinating. While exploring widely used chemical compounds and molecular structures, I was drawn to one that people interact with daily and rely on heavily.

As I researched further, it became clear that this life changing invention exists alongside a serious and often overlooked problem: improper disposal and recycling. The environmental impact of plastic, in particular, is widely underestimated, despite the lasting damage it has already caused to the planet.

Through this video, I hope to honor the scientists and innovators whose work often goes unnoticed, while also highlighting the responsibility that comes with invention. Without thoughtful use and proper care for our shared environment, even the most beneficial technologies can become harmful.
